I am not just a blogger, I am a Mother too

The most beautiful word on the lips of mankind is the word “Mother,”
and the most beautiful call is the call of “My mother.” It is a word
full of hope and love, a sweet and kind word coming from the depths of
the heart. The mother is everything – she is our consolation in sorrow,
our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of
love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness….

Everything in nature bespeaks the mother. The sun is the mother of
earth and gives it its nourishment of heart; it never leaves the
universe at night until it has put the earth to sleep to the song of
the sea and the hymn of birds and brooks. And this earth is the mother
of trees and flowers. It produces them, nurses them, and weans them.
The trees and flowers become kind mothers of their great fruits and
seeds. And the mother, the prototype of all existence, is the eternal
spirit, full of beauty and love.

I have only been a mother for three years. There was bliss, there was also pain. I had a very wonderful pregnancy. God spared me
from the excessive pain of labor. I was favored like that. Let me relive that moment;

It was 9 in the evening that I decided to just watch Disney’s Mulan just in case the baby inside my stomach is still awake and might want some entertainment. I finished watching the movie about 12 midnight and I feel some kind of pain, an unexplicable pain somewhere in the core of my being, I can’t figure out if it’s the stomach, if it’s my back. I just didn’t know, but I know it’s painful. I sent message to all my friends asking them if it’s the sign of labor and they seemed pretty convince that I am going to deliver the baby any time soon.

I lived in an apartment near the office but my roommate has to go to work, she can’t file a leave so another friend has to accompany me to the hospital. It was funny. Filipino beliefs and traditions have to be performed. They had me drink 2 raw eggs, the yolk and the white. It’s believed that when one drinks it, delivery of the baby would be just how chicken lays eggs. Easy as that, no more agonizing pain. And true enough I had that kind of experience. When I arrived at the hospital I was already at 6cm. And then I endured some out of this world pain (I don’t know how I survived it), I remembered muttering to myself “I am never going to be pregnant again, This is my first and last hurrah” Just because the pain was really excruciating. I had to wait couple of minutes before the Doctor decided that I should go to the delivery room and get ready for that MAJOR PUSH.

I was proud of myself. Did it in a matter of 3 major breathes. And O
lah lah, a beautiful baby.

There’s still so much to share about motherhood but this is it for now.
